Three weeks ago, we received a test package of THC edibles from LEAFZ , with a request to try them and give us honest feedback. Although not intended for consumption, a few samples still found their way into our mouths. Read on to find out what happened.
Basic information about edibles
Edibles containing hemp extracts aren't exactly new, so using them isn't an experiment. What is new is that they can now be ordered online in very high quality, complete with detailed lab reports. This makes these lifestyle products easily accessible. And that's precisely how edibles are marketed: as lifestyle products, for example, as room fresheners or decorative items. The combination of ingredients and active substances creates calming products that can be used legally (less than 0.3% total THC). We've already written more about this topic in our blog.
How do edibles work?
We've previously tested CBD drops to improve sleep. Here, too, a delayed onset of effects was noticeable. The first signs of drowsiness appeared after about 30 minutes. This delayed onset is perfectly normal with cannabis edibles. Unlike vaporizers and smoking, where the cannabinoid active ingredient is absorbed directly into the bloodstream via the lungs and thus reaches the receptors in the brain, the ingredients in edibles are largely metabolized by the liver before entering the bloodstream. This process begins, depending on individual factors (health, metabolism, consumption habits, etc.), between 30 minutes and 2 hours. Therefore, dosage should always be started with very small amounts and increased only after sufficient time has elapsed.

Cubes, shots and brownies, the world of edibles
The variety of edible products is vast. There are liquids like shorts and drinks, cookies and brownies that could easily pass for "original" versions at a coffee gathering, and then there are gummies or cubes that closely resemble the fruit gummies from the supermarket. We tested the following:
- Space Cubes – the special fruit gummies with pineapple flavor
- Space Brownies – the delicious ones with real chocolate brownie flavor
- Orbit Shots – a sip of sweet drink with wild berry flavor and
- Space Water – the water with mango flavor
Our self-test: what happens when you eat edibles
We drank and snacked and gained some exciting insights. Here are our conclusions about consuming LEAFZ products:
Space Cubes
The small, square candy with 15 mg of THC (less than 0.3% total THC) is our absolute favorite. Depending on your consumption habits, you can consider three different dosages. We started the test with about a quarter of the candy. After about 30 to 40 minutes, we felt the first signs of relaxation. For those of us who were new to it, the maximum effect was reached after about 90 minutes and could be maintained for a longer period. After 2.5 hours, the experience began to subside. The more experienced among us repeated the test with a whole cube two days later. Again, the effect began after 30 minutes and increased steadily. At the peak after about two hours, we felt extremely strong relaxation that lasted for several hours. During this phase, we were just as relaxed as we were used to from smoking. The conclusion after the whole cube was that our individually suitable dosage would probably have been half a cube.
Brownies, almost like Mom's
First things first: The brownies were the best choice in the test package in terms of taste. They taste like a brownie should, and have the effects of an edible. Experienced edible consumers can divide the brownie into 4 or 6 pieces, as we determined after several rounds of testing. As a group project, we divided the sweet treat into 9 pieces for our test. This was a good and pleasant decision for everyone. Whether it was due to the product or our individual circumstances isn't entirely clear, but the effects kicked in a bit later for everyone, about 80 minutes after consumption. The peak was very pleasant and, above all, very fun in our test. A real "like the good old days" feeling. 😉
Orbit Shot and Space Water
We'd like to summarize the two liquid products together, as they have very similar effects. Caution is advised with the Orbit Shot, as measuring with a measuring cup is recommended. Consuming an entire shot containing 200 mg of the active ingredient is, of course, not advisable. We divided the 70 ml bottle into several sips, which in retrospect wasn't ideal. Our tip: drink 3-5 ml with a measuring cup and gradually work your way up to the desired dose. To be honest, we underestimated the dosage. Firstly, the effects kicked in very quickly, seemingly after 10 minutes, and secondly, the peak was quite intense after about an hour. Since we had obviously made a mistake there, we were much more precise when testing the Space Water. 20 mg in 25 ml significantly reduces the risk of an overdose. We shared the Space Water among four people and this time felt a pleasant effect after about 15 minutes, which developed beautifully. After about an hour, we reached an optimal state, which lasted for approximately three hours. In general, it can be observed that liquid edibles take effect faster, but the effects last for a shorter time. Overall, the experience is more similar to that of a vaporizer.
Insider tip and conclusion
When buying edibles, always look for trustworthy manufacturers, like LEAFZ. Besides good service and informative pages, the transparent lab reports available in their webshop also show that you're in the right place. Here, for example, are the LEAFZ lab reports:

If you pay attention to these points, you're on the safe side with LEAFZ products. The brownies and cubes are particularly good in terms of taste. The experience is very similar to that of an original brownie or gummy candy. Optimizing the taste of the liquid edibles might be more difficult. While they're easy to swallow, a slightly less bitter aftertaste would be desirable. However, this shortcoming is compensated for by the rapid and particularly pleasant effects.
And one more very urgent piece of advice from us: Stick to one dose per test. Based on previous experience with edibles, we can tell you that it's not a good idea to consume several products within a short period of time.
Important: Throughout the entire test, we were of course in a safe environment among friends. One person read the test at a time to document everything from an outside perspective.
