The terms surrounding the hemp plant are often confusing and are often incorrectly used interchangeably. Here you will find a brief summary of the differences.
hemp
Hemp is the common term in German-speaking countries and simply refers to the plant genus.
cannabis
Cannabis is the Latin word for hemp and in science this is also how the hemp plant is referred to. Unfortunately, in many countries both hemp and cannabis are also mistakenly used for the intoxicating components of the plant.
Marijuana and weed
Marijuana and weed are synonyms - so both words mean the same thing. Marijuana or grass refers to the dried flowers of the female hemp plant. Marijuana is usually smoked or inhaled when vaporized.
hashish
Hash (short for hashish) is the collected and mostly pressed resin. The resin can be found on the glandular hairs of the female hemp plant. Hash is obtained from the resinous flowers and leaves.
